Is it worth it to start a business in the Philippines?
emartel01 asked:
I want to know if it is worth it to start a business in the Philippines? I am a Filipino from the States however I do not know if starting a business in the Philippines is worth it.
People say an internet cafe is a good business but everyone seems to be doing that. Anyways I want to know if spending a lot of money to start a business is worth the return?
Thanks for the info

Inspite of the negative feedback about the economy of the country, doing business here is still worth the investment you put up. Pick the kind of business you are really interested in, you love doing and a bit knowledgeable about it.
well i am opening a american style laundromat in the future. i wont say where but there is a speedqueen dealer in manila and have to have them shipped to where i plan on opening in the future. it is near 4 colleges and have the perfect building. just remember with any business location is everything!!! already went around asking students and people on the street what they thought of it and about 80% said they would use it. also besides the laundry have a small net cafe and sandwich shop so the students can come in and clean,do schoolwork and grab a bite to eat.
Internet Cafee is good ..Before the Internet cafee one hour cost 20 without webcam, used webcam cost 25.
Some still do charge like 20 an hour.
But now such too many little computer cafee the cost down to 10 to 15 peso an hour. Cebu.
Manila at Mall still high cost one hour is 60 PHP. but some cost 30 PHP it depend the location.
Province?..maybe you can charge more but in the city very low price.. as of now.
Even low rate of charge you can still make money on Internet cafee. Run 24 hour have some discount if they spend more at the cofee.
In India an Hour cost 8PESO. still make money.
In the US one person start Internet cafee now they have a lot branches cafee’s. still make money no one is watching because when you pay using credit you can see that at the airport Internet cafee.
i never seen that at the airport in Philippines serve your self Internet cafee at the airport.
If you do that kind of business that would be great!
Put your Internet cafee at the airport paid using credit card.
like same in the us airport.
good luck.
Only if you plan to live in the Philippines will it be worth having your own business. Without your close supervision, it’s easy for anything to go wrong with your business.
And if you’re the same person inquiring about looking to find a job in the Philippines with English skills for leverage…you might want to reconsider. Having your own business has a lot of advantages; no layoffs, your rules, and your decisions and your calls. You decide how much raise you deserve and where money goes to improve the service or product of your company.
Although, call centers may get you around $300 - $400 equivalent salary, do the research and the math to see how much profit you can potentially earn with having your own business. Even if it’s an Internet Cafe. If you can last a 2-3 yrs, you can develop the necessary skills, knowledge, and technology to expand your business or explore other new business opportunities.
The return can be much greater than your employer’s decision on whether to give you an increase or not.
Good luck!
I have a start up beach resort business facing the Tacloban City. Although the resort is just finishing its final touches, there has been high demand from surrounding towns and cities to utilize the amenities.
Let me know if you’re interested of investing and we can discuss the detail.
Or for those interested of investing on the resort shoot me an email.
